 Note From Managing Director

As we welcome more owners into the luxury lifestyle that Boating Partnerships has to offer, we look forward to sharing and creating many great memories in the coming years.

With our new Platinum 5400 Sport Yacht nearing delivery to its 5 excited owners, I have fabricated a timeline explaining the build process. Within this process is 9 stages that take place over 4 months, all of which the owners can observe first hand.

Last week Lauren sat down with one of the newest members of our team to discuss his experience with Boating Partnerships.

In this months refresh your knowledge section we have focused on the importance behind the theory of tides, in order to help you to plan your days out and anchor with confidence. We have also covered some simple boating terms that are helpful to use when out on the water, making you feel like a real boaty.

Riviera welcomes its 100th, 5400 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition highlighting the popularity and love for Riviera vessels.

As always, I look forward to assisting you with your boating needs, making your experience with us here at Boating Partnerships an effortless and personalised experience.

 Testimonial

“Having never owned a boat before, the training Boating Partnerships provided has enabled me to feel confident in my skills and abilities in all areas of using my boat. I began with a theory lesson with Les, then went out on the water later with William and owner of Boating Partnerships Tom.

The key factor that helped me cross the line in owning a boat with Boating Partnerships was Tom and his team, as well as the longevity of their experience. My experience so far has been better than expected and I am looking forward to making the most of Sydney Harbour and what the boating lifestyle has to offer” - Recent owner in our Riviera 4800 Sport Yacht

The Build Process

As the build process is an exciting part of becoming a owner in a brand new Riviera, we wanted to share this opportunity with you. We have fabricated a timeline, which explains in detail how the boats are built from start to finish (specifically the 5400 Sport Yacht).

With 40 years experience, Riviera has become one of the most experienced and well-known boating brands worldwide. Building up to 100 boats a year with skills and experience from more than 450 employees. Owners have the opportunity to see first hand, an elite quality of manufacturing like no other. Watching your boat being built from start to finish in Riviera’s state of the art factory is an experience everyone needs to be a part of!

TIMELINE -

Screen Shot 2020-10-29 at 9.14.57 am.png

Lamination - The first stage of the build process is the lamination of the hull. In the meantime, the timber kit starts the manufacturing process. This includes cutting the timber out and assembling it, followed by the varnish process, ready for Fit-Out Two.

Cut Out Bay (‘Dusty Area’) - A procedure consisting of trimming the flange around the hull and cutting out any side hull windows.

Engineering - The Engineering Stage refers to the assembling of the engine room. Components that need to be installed include gyro stabiliser, water maker, fuel system, batteries, water tanks, water pumps, generator, engines and drives.

The Deck - The deck begins lamination in the first or second week of the hull entering the engineering process. This is where additional plumbing and wiring is installed while the bow rail is also fitted.

Fit-Out One - Now it is time for the hull and deck to be joined. As this timeline is based on our 5400 Sport Yacht, the hard top will now be assembled with the electrical components including the radar dome, antennas and sunroof. Once assembled it is lifted on top of the deck. The Corian bench tops and bathroom shower floors will have begun production, so they are prepared and ready for Fit-Out Two.

Pre-Delivery - During this process there will be an electrical test to ensure that the wiring is safe. A leak test will also take place on the joins and windows. This involves sealing off every hatch, and window. A large panel is then placed on the back door with a fan that creates a vacuum inside the boat. A sprinkler then runs over the boat for a period of 6-8 hours to ensure that there are no leaks inside and the boat is fully sealed.

Fit-Out Two - Fit-Out Two involves the installation of the interior upholstery, all entertainment, electronics, helm chair, bench tops, flooring, appliances, and of course the entire timber kit. Once the interior fit-out is completed, the boat enters the paint shed where the hull is painted and the antifoul is applied.

Quality Control - The final stages of the build process includes sea trialing, quality inspection, rectification and wash.

Dealer Handover - This is where the boat is handed over to Boating Partnerships. After conducting our own quality control and having any issues rectified, our team then fits out the boat with additional items such as the tender, all kitchen utensils, additional appliances, spare parts and snorkelling gear.

Now is the time for owners to become familiar with their brand new luxury motor yacht. With training provided by Boating Partnerships, owners can have confidence that they will be able to control and manoeuvre their vessel comfortably.

On behalf of the Boating Partnerships team and managing director Tom van Vliet we are very excited to deliver this highly optioned magnificent 5400 Sport Yacht to its new owners.

“Taking part in the build process is allowing us to learn more about our boat as it transforms from an empty hull to our dream motor yacht.” - Peter and Anne (20% Owner of 5400 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition, currently in production)

Riviera celebrates the 100th 5400 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition

Australia’s largest luxury motor yacht builder Riviera has achieved a further production milestone with its popular Sport Yacht Platinum Edition series following the delivery of the 100th 5400 Platinum Edition Sport Yacht to a new owner in New Zealand.

2020 has been another year of achievement for the company as it celebrates 40 years of evolution.

Riviera owner Rodney Longhurst describes this latest milestone as a very proud moment for the entire Riviera team.

“While the launching of this yacht honours the continued refinements made by our team, to have built 100 of the 5400 and more than 100 of the 6000 Sport Yacht models affirms their global popularity and our dedication to creating world-class luxury motor yachts,” said Mr Longhurst.

“Riviera Sport Yachts are enjoyed by owners the around the world for their sports pedigree, performance, pure luxury, their flowing indoor-outdoor spaces and key features such as tender garages, wide side decks and covered cockpits.”

The 100th Riviera 5400 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition has been delivered to a new owner in New Zealand by dealer representative R Marine Flagship in Auckland.

Riviera the first choice

The 5400 is the new owner’s second Riviera after moving from a Riviera 4000 Offshore which he had owned for 14 years. While he appreciates the milestone of the 100th 5400 for Riviera, he says the sentimentality of the hull number was not nearly as significant compared to what the motor yacht has to offer.

“The reality is I didn’t want to look at anything else other than a Riviera,” he said.

“I already had a Riviera and that’s what I was planning to purchase again. I chose the 5400 Sport Yacht because I like a single-level style of boat. I definitely wanted a social motor yacht, an entertainer, and the 5400 ticked all the boxes for me, especially her size….

 Staff Profile

SIMON - BOAT CARE PROFESSIONAL

“I was lucky enough to grow up around the waters of Middle Harbour, Sydney. Since I was very young, my passion for sailing led me into competitions for most of my life, which has added to the love I have for the ocean.

Before working for Boating Partnerships I worked on luxury boats and commercial ferries, which really boosted my experience in the boating industry. I look forward to any chance I can get to be out on the water as I’m always learning more. If it’s on my tender, windsurfing in Sydney Harbour or working on Riviera’s, I’ll be there.

At Boating Partnerships I am a boat care professional, which essentially means I am in charge of maintaining the exterior appearance of our boats. Coming into this business I loved the professionalism of all the staff and love how all the Riviera vessels are maintained. We make sure when you return to your boat it’s immaculate and to a high standard of cleanliness. I believe Riviera is the best boating brand due to the build quality and the fact they are made in Australia and built for the Australian waters.

I love taking part in supporting the hassle free lifestyle for our owners. Owners can expect to get on their boat knowing it will be presented immaculately - looking brand new every time.”

Refresh Your Knowledge

tides-third-quarter-moon.png

This month we want to refresh your knowledge on the theory behind tides, what they are and why they happen. Tides are one of the essential areas of knowledge that boaters should be fluent in. When using your boat this information becomes useful when you’re planning your anchorage spots and also can assist in choosing the most accessible wharf to pick up and drop off guests.

Tides are the rise and fall of water level in the oceans. A high tide is when the sea level rises to its highest point. Thus, low tides is when the water level falls to its lowest point.

The moon and sun are the two main factors that cause this process to happen. The moon has gravity of its own, which pulls the oceans towards it causing a bulge or high tide on the side of the earth closest to the Moon. The sun also has its own gravity which affects the tides. The sun may be much larger than the moon but as it’s further away, the gravity isn’t as strong.

Before heading out for a cruise take a look at a tide table so you know the times relevant to your area. It’s also useful to understand the tides through observation. Look at the water and the shore; the tidal current is visible as the water flows in towards or retreating away from the land. A simple give away when looking at the shore line is whether there are any oysters visible - if they are, then you know the tide is lower than its highest point. When approaching a swing mooring its important to note the tidal flow as the rope will be taken in the same direction. Make sure you know what the tide is doing when you leave your tender on the beach, especially in the Whitsundays as tides can range between 1.3M and 3.8M.

These days on majority of the Riviera vessels you have the capacity to view current and future tide times within the helm navigation equipment. Feel free to give one of our team members a call for guidance when you’re next on board.

Boating Terms - When owning a boat, we recommend that you refresh your knowledge on certain terms that can be handy when out on the water. These terms have been developed over the years that enhance better communication for skippers and especially when visiting new marinas or unfamiliar waters.
