We pride ourselves on our concierge services, having skippers and stewardesses readily available in order to allow our owners to sit back and relax as much as possible is an essential service in Boating Partnerships. Jordi, part-owner of one of our 4800 Sport Yachts, makes use of his Riviera for both an opportunity to spend quality time with his family, as well as a space to hold business meetings in an outdoor environment. Last week he shared his experience with Lauren on why this service that we provide complements his lifestyle and further enhances the memorable experiences he has had.

I am very excited to welcome Danielle to our Sydney team, with a new title of Interior and Concierge Manager. She has experience working in The Whitsundays, The Caribbean Islands and Ningaloo Reef in the coastal region of Western Australia and we look forward to and are grateful for all she has to bring to the team.

Continuing on with our weather series, we have focused on the Australian tropical cyclone season. In order to enhance your knowledge and increase understanding about the current weather patterns that we are all experiencing.

I am also thrilled to announce that we will be involved in the Mystery Box Rally this year, with all donations going to Cancer Council. For more information on how to make a difference, view our article below.

 Refresh Your Knowledge

Continuing with our four-part weather series, this month we grasp a deeper understanding of cyclones and where you can find up-to-date-date forecasts . As stated by the Bureau of Meteorology, an increase of tropical cyclones is expected for 2021. The Australian tropical cyclone season is the months from November to April. Thus, this is the perfect time to enhance your knowledge surrounding cyclones.

La Niña is a term to be familiar with as it refers to the shift to cooler water temperatures in the central and eastern Pacific Ocean. This means surrounding areas are likely to have much wetter conditions, thus more tropical cyclones.

El Niño refers to sustained warming over a large part of the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean. El Niño events occur about every four to seven years and typically last for around 12 to 18 months. They are a natural part of the climate system and have been affecting the Pacific Basin for thousands of years.

Further, there are changes in the atmosphere that affect weather patterns across the majority of the Pacific Basin, including Australia. The change created promotes further warming of the ocean causing ocean currents. El Niño events often result in a decrease in rainfall across parts of eastern and northern Australia, particularly during winter, spring, and early summer.

monsoon trough refers to a seasonal wind that causes widespread, constant rainfall across the broad region. The word monsoon comes from an Arabic word meaning ‘season’. In regards to Australia, it is associated with the northern part of Australia. The monsoon season runs from October to April around the north of the Northern Territory.

The Bureau of Meteorology website gives warning services, up-to-date forecasts on imminent cyclones, and safety tips. Click here to view the Australian Tropical Cyclone Outlook for 2021.

Riviera celebrates 15 years of easy boating with Volvo Penta IPS.

Australia’s largest luxury motor yacht builder, Riviera, has reached a milestone with Volvo Penta’s Inboard Performance System (IPS), reflecting the global popularity of this innovative marine drive option among motor yacht owners.

Since the launch of IPS in 2005, Volvo Penta has delivered more than 30,000 units to the international marine industry.

After embracing the innovation of IPS in 2006 and adopting the market-leading technology for the company’s luxury motor yachts, Riviera has installed its 2,200th IPS unit that today are available on selected models from the Flybridge, Sport Yacht and SUV collection. IPS is also available on the new 50 Sports Motor yacht.

This represents a significant number of the units produced by Volvo Penta, affirming the strength of the partnership with Riviera.

The benefits of Volvo Penta IPS for Riviera motor yachts are extended cruising range, higher cruise speed, lower fuel consumption, lower noise levels, the Dynamic Positioning System that maintains a yacht’s location at idle and the convenience of joystick docking which has made boating so much easier, particularly manoeuvring in close quarters.

One-hand joystick operation reduces the need for bow thrusters and the more complicated shift, throttle and steering wheel combinations when docking. There is also improved performance including a tighter turning circle.

Volvo Penta IPS comprises twin counter-rotating propellers that face forward in order to optimise performance by cutting through undisturbed water. The propellers are positioned well under the hull to eliminate the risk of air intrusion and cavitation, even in sharp turns and under full acceleration.

The propeller thrust is parallel with the hull to provide powerful and smooth acceleration and cruising performance.

Steerable pods point the entire thrust in the desired direction. This provides a course-stable power and tight turning capabilities with perfect grip and predictable handling across the speed range.

Longer cruising range

Volvo Penta IPS can provide significant improvements to cruising range and top speed, while also offering up to 50 per cent lower recognised noise and up to a 30 per cent reduction in fuel consumption. IPS also delivers up to a 30 per cent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.

The Dynamic Positioning System takes manoeuvrability a step further by keeping the motor yacht at idle within a very limited area, while still maintaining heading. This is ideal for waiting at the fuel dock, for a bridge or lock to open, or to allow the crew to prepare the fenders and lines for docking.

Volvo Penta’s sophisticated Electronic Vessel Control (EVC) system uses twin high-precision GPS receivers to determine the yacht’s position and heading. EVC software then processes this data into steering angles, gear shifts and throttle positions to maintain the motor yacht at a standstill.

For an avid fisherman like New Zealander Larry Binns, the Volvo Penta IPS in his Riviera 57 Enclosed Flybridge provides more manoeuvrability than the traditional shaft-drive he has previously owned.

The 57 is Larry’s fourth Riviera, purchased in 2017 through Riviera dealer representative R Marine Flagship. His experience with the traditional shaft-driven models includes two Riviera 43 models, and a 51 Flybridge.

Boating Partnerships is supporting Cancer Council by sponsoring a car in the Mystery Box Rally this year.

Teams will drive their 25+-year-old cars along a mystery route in this unique 5-day challenge, all in the name of cancer research. The route is a loop starting and finishing at the same location, but all the other details are kept under wraps, only given to the teams each morning.

The rally itself runs for 5 days, starting on a Saturday morning and coming back to town on a Wednesday afternoon.

All the money from Sponsorship & Donations goes to Cancer Council. Last event they had a target of $3,500 & managed over $15,000 from the team & over $1 million for the whole event.

This year’s target is $5,500 and they are hoping for similar if not better results this year.

DANIELLE

Interior and Concierge Manager Detailer

“I grew up in Western Sydney close to the Nepean River where I used to spend a lot of my weekends out on wakeboards & ski boats. About 10 years ago I got an opportunity to work as a scuba diving instructor in the Cayman Islands which lead me to travel and work in some of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean. This was my first experience working on boats after I gave up my hairdressing career and I have never looked back.

While away I also worked as a stingray wrangler. We would anchor the boat at a sandbar called Stingray City, and then my job was to catch & hold wild stingrays for tourists to interact with. FYI a stingrays kiss will bring you 7 years of good luck!

I then went on and worked as a whale shark photographer on the Ningaloo reef, exploring the west-northwest coastal region of Western Australia.

Since then my career moved towards private chartering on luxury yachts, working as a first mate, stew, cook & deckhand in places such as the Whitsundays.

I moved back to Sydney a little over a year ago and now live in the Eastern Suburbs.

In my spare time, I enjoy going on hiking/nature walks, I’m currently trying to complete the Bondi to Manly coastal walk. Otherwise, you can find me relaxing at the beach with a good book or chilling on the lounge watching Netflix.

I hope to continue to grow within my role at Boating Partnerships and maybe one day buy my own Riviera yacht!”

Owner Experience

“An extended service we offer here at Boating Partnerships is our captain and crew services. Here we specifically talk with Jordi, an owner in the 4800 Sport Yacht, based at Rushcutters Bay Sydney. Combining business meetings, entertaining guests, and having quality time with his family, Jordi takes advantage of the skipper and stewardess services allowing him and his guests to sit back and relax.”

“An occasion when I would choose to have a skipper on board would be when I’m looking to totally relax and enjoy the guests onboard. Having a skipper and stewardess to take away the responsibility, particularly times of celebrations or meetings allows for total tranquility. I can be assured that our guests are always looked after, food preparation and presentation will be done so well and at the end of the day, the boat is clean and tidy. On all occasions, the Stewardess has fitted right in and become an extension of our style of hospitality.

Sharing my special meat preparation recipe with our stewardess, Lauren was definitely an enjoyable memory, it becomes a hit every-time! The Skipper and Stewardess ensure an enjoyable and stress-free time on the water. The flexibility of the joint team to make the day very special to all on board. The crew’s services definitely make my day out on the water, it’s of great value and all delivered with a smile!” - Jordi march 2021
