Note From Managing Director

What an Interesting month it has been! We are delighted that NSW has followed Queensland’s recreational restrictions, as NSW has lifted their’s allowing owners to get back on the water. Throughout the past few months our team have been working on system improvements and owner benefits in which will be very beneficial to our owner experience. We will be announcing some exciting news including some brand new partnerships in the coming weeks so WATCH THIS SPACE!!

In this weeks newsletter we talk to an inspirational, experienced man that we are very lucky to call our own. Les Bliem began as a Qantas Pilot dedicating 40 years of his life to training and international travel. From then he began a successful journey of boating and now with us at Boating Partnerships, is providing quality training and skippering services to all our clients.

My team and I at Boating Partnerships, wish you all a steady recovery from these interesting times and look forward to working with you closely, as we get back on the water and enjoy our shared love of boating.

Les Bliem is an outstanding member of Boating Partnerships and is the core to our training services. His experience and career path is truely remarkable. To have such an wise and skilful person on our team really outlines the professionalism of Boating Partnerships.

”Initially I came to know of Boating Partnerships through a relative who spoke very highly of this operation. I was immediately struck by the high calibre, professional, organised operation – beautiful Riviera boats which were maintained in every way to a very high standard and obviously enough – happy, satisfied clients.

Most of my working life has involved in part, being a trainer. My career as an airline pilot, and then later, as a training captain  required me to be a trainer of junior, less experienced pilots, often to the position of captaincy. It is often said about me that I am a very patient person. This quality together with my thoroughness makes being a trainer just right for me and my trainees.

The advice I can give to future boat owners is a rather simple offering – knowledge is power.
I would recommend thorough training. There should be no short cuts.
The combination of the variables of tides, currents, wind, weather and vessel makes safe boating a complex operation and is very different to safe driving of a motor car.

As a voice with the experience of long term sole ownership of a boat, and all the pitfalls and negatives that this involves, it is with great confidence that I can say that syndication is a much preferred mode of boat ownership.
Syndication offers hassle free boating; walk on/walk off!
The boat is maintained, berthed, detailed and made perfectly ready for each owner to use with no effort required by the owner.
The generous timetabling enables boat owners to each have a very “fair go” in using their boat.

 Boating Is Back

From 14 May 2020, NSW Government Public Health Orders have been updated which eases some of the previous restrictions across NSW.
All recreational boating is now permitted, however, the skipper must still ensure there is four square metres of space for each person on board. As you return to boating we wish to remind you that when onshore you should not gather with more than 10 people unless with members of the same household and should always maintain necessary social distance measures.

You can view the latest information about Public Health Orders and restrictions here.

Worried about getting back behind the wheel? If you haven't taken your vessel out lately and think you need a refresher, arrange a private lesson with a member of our team. Our standard 4 hour course will cover such things as docking your boat, anchoring, boat manoeuvring and how to respond in emergency situations.

All Boating Partnerships owners are welcome to a complimentary 4 hour course, Please contact William@boatingpartnerships.com.au

 Refresh Your Knowledge

925_Chrome_Joystick_for_Volvo_Penta_IPS-vp-hero.jpg

This week with 'Boating Partnerships refresh your knowledge' we are looking at the Volvo Penta IPS docking system. First of all, IPS stands for Integrated Propulsion System and it is this system that helps our owners enjoy the most relaxing way to own a boat! Often we hear that people are afraid of driving 'bigger boats' and think its 'To complicated'  to maneuver a larger vessel, which to this we say it can be- but not with IPS!

So lets refresh your knowledge of how the system works and more importantly a few tips and tricks on how to operate it. Volvo Penta IPS works smarter not harder with forward facing props that allow for a greater flow of water resulting in both greater performance and efficiency. The pod drives act just like a bow and stern thruster but dont spin all the way around, in fact It is only 28 degrees that the pods move- resulting in the ability to move your Riviera any direction you please.

The IPS system over traditional shafts generates much lower fuel consumption and emission levels with virtually no noticeable exhaust fumes. The twin counter rotating props are a Volvo Penta signature with precision gears that are cut within 1/10,000th of a milimeter. The curve cut design of the gears results in a very smooth and quiet operation. It is thanks to the drives themself that are made of nickel, bronze and aluminium which constantly propel power in whichever direction the pod moves. In simple terms this means which ever way your pods are facing, you have full power available. It is this availability of power and ease of operation that allow for a hydrodynamic masterpiece.

So now onto how to master it- Owners take note!

1860x1050-IPS-NY-newsintro.jpg

When operating the IPS control the power available is somewhat daunting. Our first tip is "Be Gentle". Often when approaching a dock or mooring skippers overcompensate with the power available, Remember that in calm conditions you can be gentle on the power! A light push of the joystick and a hard push might be the difference between the superchargers kicking in. If they do kick in, dont worry! your Volvo Penta Engines are simply giving you the power on standby if you need it.

Our second tip is "What goes forward must go back". The IPS joystick can easily counteract any movement it just made. When pushinging the joystick forward, dont forget you can pull it back to counteract your motion. The same rule applies when twisting the boat clockwise or anticlockwise.

Lastly when using IPS we often remind owners to "Watch your bow"! The IPS system has the ability to mimic a bow or stern thruster. Meaning if your stern is in the right place, but not your bow- you can hold your stern steady and swing your bow. To achieve this the skipper must hold the IPS joystick right on the sweet spot of stern control and bow movement. This is different on each boat and we highly recommend our owners remember this during our training.

The Volvo Penta IPS system is one designed, manufactured and serviced all by the same company resulting in the consumers benefit. To experience the IPS convenience for yourself feel free to contact us and make an appointment.

Testimonial

We purchased a one sixth share in a Sydney-based 4800SY and we're loving it. It's been a dream to own a "big boat" for more than 20 years and, after researching buying our own second-hand boat outright, we realised that buying a share in a brand new, state-of-the-art Riviera made a lot more sense. We don't use our boat 100% of the time, so why pay for 100% of the ongoing costs? Despite it being a syndicated boat, Boating Partnerships have helped ensure we have a real sense of "ownership" of our pride and joy. The BP team are friendly and professional, and we like that they ensure that like-minded owners are selected for each vessel. The boat is impeccably looked after and we love the walk-on-walk-off service that BP provides.
