JUNE TRAILER

 Note From Managing Director

With restrictions easing, I am excited to say our time on the water is starting to feel like normal again. We look forward to the boarders reopening to Queensland allowing our East Coast Relocating vessels to depart Sydney and head north. I am excited to announce that we have officially opened another office at d’Albora Marina Akuna Bay! Located one hour north of Sydney CBD, on the picturesque Hawkesbury and Cowan River in the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, Akuna Bay is a stunning location and we are looking forward to setting up many new partnerships here.

This month we talk to my longest running staff member, Grant Sambells. An individual that never ceases to amaze me, his work ethic and devotion to our company is one of the reasons I hold my company at the highest professional standard. Following on from that we talk to one of our clients, Roger Drake, about his experience with relocating boats along the east coast and what he has learnt along the journey. In this months refresh your knowledge we discuss the regulations for whale watching. As over 30,000 humpback whales cruise up the East Coast we are encouraging our owners to make use of our skippering services to ensure you find the whales and are able to enjoy watching these incredible animals.

As always, if we can be of any assistance please feel free to contact me on 0408722132.

How did your love of boating begin?

P1010154.jpg

“Growing up living in the central coast down by the water, I have a young familiarity with the ocean. Working on state of the art vessels, combines both my passion for boats and work. The closeness to saltwater and the fresh breeze while working is just like no other job.”

How long have you been working for Boating Partnerships and do you have your own personal expectations?

I’ve currently been working for Boating Partnerships for 8 years part-time, making sure our expectations are achieved. You can be sure that my services leave an immaculate boat for each owner's arrival. I am given a checklist to make sure nothing is overlooked so that when owners enter the boat they are provided with a 5-star service.

What other interests do you have? We've heard you enjoy music?

I'm currently a doctoral candidate at Western University, a classical performance teacher and a lecturer at the Australian Institute of Music. I’ve played for the governor general at Kirribilli house on the classical guitar. I have the perfect balance of work and my love for music, making each day at work very enjoyable.

Do you enjoy being a Interior and exterior detailer ?

Yes, my job is ideal for my lifestyle as I am able to work my shift in the morning before heading to the university and giving private lessons. The main reason I love my job is because its a great way to start my day, giving me the appropriate daily exercise.

 Testimonial

Roger Drake has been a client with Boating Partnerships for over 5 years. He has been apart of many partnerships including the Riviera 4700, 5800, 6000 and now is enjoying the luxury of the 68 Sports Motor Yacht. Below Roger talks fondly of his experience and mentions the highlights of the journey.

Were you included in the build process?

“We've been lucky enough to get the opportunity of observing the build from start to finish, which I think is very important. Even though you are a partner in the syndicate you still get a real sense of ownership while building your perfect boat. You have the ability to change and customise things during the process while gaining an understanding of what really is involved with building these magnificent yachts. Some would think building a boat with other partners would be difficult but in fact you end up with a better boat as different people have different ideas that I wouldn’t have thought of”

What’s your favourite location and why do you like relocating?

“I think the Whitsundays is probably one of the nicest boating waterways in Australia. I suppose for me you've got restaurants to spoil yourself, incredible anchorages, a variety of snorkelling and fishing locations and don’t forget about the golf course opposite Hamilton Island! It’s accessible and easy to enter the Whitsundays via Hamilton Island or Proserpine. Traveling along the coast, especially with an experienced skipper, you explore waterways that you never even knew existed. When you're not on the boat constantly you tend to lose that skill set that you've been taught. You are given the opportunity to control your own boat knowing that you have someone with an enormous amount of skills set beside you. I guess it's a training session in itself...and an enjoyable training session”.

What is your favourite memory of relocating?

I still rate the best fish I’ve ever tasted was Tom caught a coral trout on the outer reef on our final leg to Hamilton Island. I was up on the helm and Jimmy did the cooking, it was absolutely remarkable, straight out of the water, straight onto the pan, with the butter...it still rates as the best fish meal I’ve had in my life. Also, snorkelling off the reef at Lady Musgrave, you felt so comfortable because you are enclosed in a tidal lagoon with fish and the water was just crystal clear. Having someone with the skill set to navigate you through what was reasonably tight waters, yeah it was just magnificent.

Regulations for Whale And Dolphin Watching

Screen Shot 2020-06-18 at 9.27.17 am.png

More than 30,000 humpback and southern right whales relocate down the coastline between May and November. In their annual migration they begin in Antarctica and head north to the warmer waters of the pacific. Thus, the east coast is the ideal location to watch these wonderful creatures show off.

Below are the current regulations that all boat owners need to be aware of in order to protect our wildlife:

If a whale is sighted within 300m away slow down and watch from a distance but if it’s only an adult, 100m is acceptable.

If a dolphin is sighted within 150m slow down and view from a distance. If it’s an adult, 50m is acceptable.

All vessels must have no wash in order to protect our incredible species. No more than three vessels at a time should approach whales and dolphins. If a whale approaches your vessel, approach at a 30 degree angle to their direction. Slowly move past and be sure to veer away from the path of the whale(s) when leaving. The main priority is making sure you make no sudden movements avoid loud noises.
