NOTE FROM MANAGING DIRECTOR

As May approaches we look forward to the 2021 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, set to commence on the 20th of May. With a thrilling new look and layout, this year is proving to be bigger and better! If you have any questions regarding the show or are in need of guidance with ticket purchasing, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Contractors make up a huge part of Boating Partnerships’ success, as they apply specific skills and training to carry out the work in an efficient and timely manner. In this issue, we shine a light on the importance of our contractors who are located in all of our boat locations, at the ready whenever a client needs.

In this issue, we also welcome two new articles to our E-magazine. With Riviera having such a substantial boat range, we have decided to implement a fresh new article within each issue, ‘Boat of the Month’ to showcase Riviera’s finest. To begin, we look at the Platinum Riviera 5400 Sport Yacht, highlighting its luxury detail and powerful abilities. Issue 3 also introduces the ‘Boating Partnerships Food Guide’, an article that provides all our owners with our favorite quick and easy recipes to impress family and guests when cruising.

CONTRACTORS

Boating Partnerships wouldn’t be a smooth-running business without the help of our contractors. There are many faces that you don’t see who work extremely hard behind the scenes. Our external trades are specifically trained and most importantly, they are insured to carry out the specific work required.

Creating a strong relationship with contractors ensures we can provide the highest quality of work in the most efficient and timely manner. It becomes essential during those tight turn arounds of owners departing and arriving or when we have a number of our vessels requiring changeover on the same dates.

In all of the locations that our boats are based or may travel to, we are able to call upon our local trusted contractors who will generally put us at the top of their priority list, coming to our assistance when needed.

Whether our mechanics are carrying out a complete engine and drive service or our shipyard is completing annual out of water services, everything is carried out under the watchful eye of the staff at Boating Partnerships.

Paul, former owner of the 6000 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition

“Due to the relationships Boating Partnerships have with their contractors, every issue was fixed in the most efficient and beneficial way. For example, one of the main batteries failed, and on my own it probably would have taken me about a month to sort out but Boating Partnerships had it sorted within 4 hours. Further, the local knowledge and guidance that was provided to me also heightened my experience as they advised me on the best places to eat and the best fish to catch, etc. Had I been on my own, I wouldn’t have enjoyed my boat or the experience nearly enough as I have been with Boating Partnerships.”

 Boating Partnerships Food Guide

Following on with another new monthly article we introduce to you the Boating Partnerships Food Guide. Here we share with you our favorite catering options both DIY and available on request from our concierge team.

In this issue, we discuss a quick and easy DIY option that will impress family and guests every time.

Cheeseboards are an easy starter that don’t require a great deal of preparation but when well executed with the correct ingredients and layout, you will be sure to reuse the option again and again.

There are endless options when adding to a cheeseboard but here we have put our most successful arrangement together allowing you to be more efficient in the supermarket!

Overall, you should aim to provide 6 categories for the flavors to complement each other and further provide a variation for guests.

We like to incorporate categories including meat/salty, crunchy, sweet, fruits, veggies, and condiments.

INGREDIENTS

  • Cheese; soft & hard our favorites include: d’affinois brie, smoked cheddar, and castello blue cheese

  • Meats: Prosciutto, salami, smoked ham

  • Olives (stuffed are almost always a winner)

  • Rice crackers, water crackers, crunchy breadsticks, and pita chips

  • Dried apricots, figs, grapes, strawberries,

  • Cherry tomatoes

  • Chocolate squares, preferably dark to help satisfy those with a sweet tooth

  • Hummus, pesto dip, chutney

HOW TO ARRANGE A CHEESEBOARD

  1. Put the cheese on first, making sure you spread it evenly as the cheese wedges become the structure and centrepiece of the board.

  2. Secondly, building from the cheesy center, start adding the salty category, olives, and meats avoiding the crackers for now. Use small bowls for ingredients such as olives.

  3. Fill the gaps with those sweet elements such as dried apricots and chocolate squares.

  4. Where there are openings, pile-mixed crackers, and crunchy breadsticks.

  5. Add any condiments

  6. Finally, let’s add colour to this cheeseboard! Fill in the empty space with clusters of grapes and cherry tomatoes.

 REFRESH YOUR KNOWLEDGE

Screen Shot 2021-04-12 at 1.04.31 pm.png

Continuing on from our weather articles, this issue we want to focus on cloud formation in order to predict the weather. Just by following these simple tips, you will be able to plan your day out boating and maybe even impress your friends and family.

The first step in predicting the weather is to understand the three main categories. These include high clouds, middle clouds, and low clouds.

Another way of identifying a cloud formation is through its shape. A bunch of clouds would describe a cumulus shape. Status represents clouds that are long and streaky. A nimbus represents the shape of ‘rain’, which is all familiar to us.

If you notice the clouds are moving, that means there will be a change of weather, and depending on the direction you can work out which way the storm is approaching.

HIGH CLOUDS

High Clouds - 16,000 - 43,000.

You may find high clouds on high mountains or at the cruising altitude of an airplane. Clouds that look like these, will tend to be comprised of ice crystals. Fact - High clouds do not block sunlight.

High clouds include: Cirrus, Cirrostratus and Cirrocumulus

MIDDLE CLOUDS

Middle Clouds - 6,500 to 23,000 feet.

Middle clouds are made up of water and when temperatures are low, ice will occur.
You will find that middle clouds will generally block sunlight.

Middle clouds consist of Altostratus and Altocumulus

LOW CLOUDS

Low Clouds - below 6,500 feet.

When determining a low cloud, look for the clouds that are in line with tall buildings. They are generally made up of water and snow when the temperature is low. Low clouds are known to block sunlight and can bring precipitation and wind.

Low clouds include: Stratus, Stratocumulus, and Nimbostratus

AVOIDING SEA SICKNESS

shutterstock_1260102082.jpg

Sea sickness (also known as motion sickness), is when there is conflict among your senses. Your eyes, muscles, and inner ears are sending mixed signals to the brain. For example, you could be in your saloon and your eyes aren’t seeing movement, but the inner ear senses are. Your eyes are telling your brain there is no movement, while inner ears are opposing this information. This is when you will experience sea sickness.

In preparation for a cruise, there is a variety of medications that are accessible over the counter. Medicines for nausea are called antiemetic drugs, which include Antihistamines such as Nonine and Framamine.

If you are on your boat and haven’t pre-prepared, the first step is to try to have something to eat. The best foods are light and bland, such as crackers, plain bread, or pretzels. A sip of ginger ale or peppermint may calm your stomach as well.

An acupressure wristband is another possible solution that applies pressure to a point on your wrist helping to avoid nausea. You can find acupressure wristbands in some pharmacies or order them from online stores such as Amazon.

AVOID foods such as greasy, spicy, acidic foods, alcohol and large meals. Lastly, focus your eyes on the horizon!

Riviera expands its team through new training initiative

Australia’s largest builder of luxury motor yachts, Riviera, has expanded its recruitment program for 2021 through a new initiative with the Queensland Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT) that will employ 30 additional craftspeople for its boatbuilding team on the Gold Coast.

In a first for the marine industry, the collaboration uses the combined resources of DESBT and the Federal Government’s Department of Education, Skills and Employment to help trainees fast-track their careers in boatbuilding.

More than 200 potential marine craftspeople have expressed interest in participating in the Riviera-led program which is aimed at enhancing the company’s capabilities to train new professionals in the essential skills needed for building world-class luxury motor yachts.

“This is an important step in ensuring that Riviera has access to the best possible talent to fill the opportunities we currently have available,” said Riviera’s Safety and Training Manager Adam Houlahan.

“Through this collaboration we have been able to secure a shortlist of quality people with varied work experience, some of them mature-aged who can be trained in the skillsets that we require.”

Riviera plans to immediately employ 30 new trade assistants from the program with these new craftspeople participating in a newly created practical training course at TAFE Queensland, which is administered by DESBT.

“This program will allow trainees to develop the skills they need in a timely manner to take up various trade assistants’ roles at Riviera,” said Adam Chanter, the Maritime Senior Project Officer, a position co-funded by the Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning.

“The trainees will undertake a non-accredited training program that focuses on developing practical skills to meet the needs of both Riviera and the industry.

“From a broader perspective, this collaboration is a model example of multiple government departments working together to achieve positive employment outcomes for all concerned.”

The latest recruitment initiative coincides with Riviera’s expansion program to meet the largest forward orders for luxury motor yachts in the company’s 41-year history.

“Our long-term commitment to training plays an integral role in our ability to create motor yachts that are admired globally for their innovative design, engineering and the most luxurious of interiors,” said Riviera owner Rodney Longhurst.

“We are proud of our ongoing collaboration with DESBT and, in conjunction with our on-site training initiatives, Riviera is not only enhancing the skills excellence of our team, we are also creating the master craftspeople of the future for our industry.”

Riviera is ready to commence the next stage of a $10 million expansion of the company’s Gold Coast boatbuilding facility. This follows the welcoming earlier this year of a record 41 new apprentices into Riviera’s award-winning training program to continue enhancing the skills of the company’s 600-strong team.
