About Perth

Perth is superbly located on the banks of the Swan River with the city centre just a short distance from hectares of natural bushland in Kings Park, making this western capital a city that's very much centred on life in the great outdoors. But there's more to this riverside city than great sunshine and a sparkling river with a diverse and fast-changing culture, city skyline and a general confidence that has transformed Perth into one of Australia's best loved and most visited city destinations.

Experience

Perth is blessed with more than its fair share of stunning beaches and waterside experiences. Mettams Pool and Bathers Beach are some of the western state's most beautiful stretches of sand and crystal blue water with the latter the first beach in Australia to be granted a liquor license. Leighton Beach and City Beach have their own special charm and then be sure to end one of your days in Perth with a memorable sunset over Cottesloe Beach, a must-do Western Australia experience.

Indulge

Get to the heart of Perth's cultural scene at the Perth Cultural Centre where you'll be able to see an extensive collection of Aboriginal art at the Art Gallery of Western Australia and wander through the Urban Orchard, a hub of inner-city greenery. Just a short walk away is the The Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts where you can enjoy Western Australia's largest free collection of modern art exhibitions and installations.

Discover

Perth's neighbourhoods provide an exciting diversion from the city centre. Start in the neighbourhood of Leederville just a few minutes' walk from the CBD where eclectic boutiques, roadside cafes and local providores line the streets and then continue onto Mount Lawley to find some of Perth's best-known bar-bistros, edgy restaurants and classic pubs. No visit to Perth is complete without a day spent ambling about Kings Park, one of the biggest inner city parks in the world (in fact, much bigger than Central Park in New York City). Walk or drive into the heart of the park and bring a picnic lunch and rug to laze about the manicured lawns and explore the extensive bushland.
